Entries On Pace For Record Gate River Run
03/09/2010 -- Entries for those planning to run the 33rd annual Gate River Run 15K are ahead of last year's pace and on pace to set a new record, according to race director Doug Alred.

Alred projects more than 15,000 entries in the 15K and more than 20,000 total in all events -- including the 5K run/walk, the 1-mile Adidas Junior River Run and the Diaper Dashes -- making this the eighth consecutive year of growth.

The field is not only large, but deep, featuring an elite field that includes nine Olympians and five former Gate River Run champions.

Gate River Run is Jacksonville's largest participatory sporting event and the largest 15K in the United States.

Participants may register for all events at the Expo at Jacksonville Fairgrounds through 8 p.m. on Friday.

The 15K and 5K races begin on Gator Bowl Boulevard and finish on the north side of the stadium. Jumbotrons screens at the finish will show Channel 4's live coverage, and runners will be able to see themselves finish.

Runners will hear 11 bands along the course, including on both sides of the Hart Bridge. The Publix post-race celebration will be held at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds.
