Fire 'Explodes,' Destroys Westside Home

A fire destroyed a home in the 6800 block of Maynard Place at Old Middleburg Road Tuesday night.
Family members said a single mother lived in the home with her two young children. They said no one was home when fire started around 8 p.m.
"We just thank God she wasn't here," said Eric Lauden, whose sister owned the home. "It's just devastating. That house has been in my family for 35 years, so it's definitely been a night."
Neighbors said the fire sounded like an explosion, and they immediately called 911.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.
